Sevier County woman charged with death of newborn infant

KODAK, Tenn. (WVLT) – A Sevier County woman has been charged in connection to the death of her newborn infant.

Stephanie M. Brown, 24, is charged with 1st degree murder.

Representatives with the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office tell Local 8 News that on January 14, 2016, Brown carried her baby to LeConte Medical Center. Medical staff determined the infant to be dead. The Sheriff’s Office was notified and an investigation was initiated.

Autopsy results show that the baby did not die from natural causes.

Brown is being held at the Sevier County Jail. She was arraigned and a 1 million dollar bond was set.
