The day before Easter busy for Chattanooga Police: 4 arrests in one day
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Saturday was a busy day for Chattanooga Police officers.
They make arrests for what they call four major incidents.
It began with Officer Ryan Vanderpool who responded to 1107 North Hickory Street on a suspicious vehicle call.
En route, dispatch advised that a white truck and a black Nissan full of juveniles who were hanging out of the windows and driving recklessly down the North Hickory Street.
The officers involved determined the vehicles matched the description of a reported carjacking that occurred Friday.
Once back up arrived on scene, all five parties in the vehicle were ordered out of the vehicle and detained.
All five suspects were juveniles.
Then on Saturday evening, officers observed a gold Chrysler Sebring with expired registration, traveling in the 1800 block of Wilson Street.
Police conducted a traffic stop of Donnell Powell.
Police smelled a strong odor of Marijuana coming from the vehicle.
He told police he had a sandwich bag with pot in it, in his right front pocket of his jeans.
Police then placed Mr. Powell under arrest for possession of a controlled substance and searched his vehicle.
They found a Hi-point Semi-auto pistol under the front passenger seat, a black bag that contained around 50 bags of marijuana individually packaged in sandwich bags, which is consistent with resale, a small chap stick container with butane hash oil, and a large amount of cash totaling $865.
Then around 10:15pm Saturday evening, Officer Ryan Lynn with the Chattanooga Police Department, responded to a report of a possible narcotics violation at 7015 Shallowford Rd.
Upon arrival, Officer Lynn could smell the odor of marijuana coming through the door and made contact with two individuals, Moneesha Evans and Daryl Cooper.
Officer Lynn conducted a field investigation and discovered over four pounds of marijuana and over $30,000 cash wrapped up in rubber bands. Both parties were taken to Hamilton County Jail and charged with Possession of a Schedule VI Narcotic.
And finally, just after midnight Saturday night/Sunday morning, Officer Trevor Creighton responded to 343 13th Avenue for an Alarm Call.
Once on scene police found a window had been broken on the right hand side of the house.
Homeowners told police no one was supposed to be inside the home.
Police then made entry inside the residence through the busted out window, and while clearing the home police found a man hiding under the bed in the master bedroom.
They took 18-year-old Antoine Devon Smith.
