CPD and HCSO Crusiers Hit In Pursuit Near Downtown
CHATTANOOGA, TN (WDEF) – A Chattanooga Police Officer and Hamilton County Sheriff’s Deputy are okay after both were hit in a high speed pursuit Tuesday night.
According to HCSO, the pursuit started in Catoosa County, GA, when Fort Oglethorpe Police tried to stop a white minivan.
The pursuit snaked up I-75 northbound into Hamilton County, taking on high speeds before getting on I-24 eastbound, heading into Chattanooga.
According to HCSO, a woman was in the car and being held against her will.
Chattanooga Police joined the pursuit, with HCSO, Catoosa County Sheriff, Georgia Highway Patrol, and FOPD already pursing the vehicle.
It ended at E 23rd Street and Dodds Avenue just seconds after slamming into the front-driver side of a CPD cruiser; that police officer is okay.
The minivan hit two sets of spike-strips and continued running on three tires, according to HCSO.
An HCSO deputy pinned the car at the intersection and a K-9 was sent into the van to take-down the fleeing man.
That man was taken into custody and transported to the hospital by EMS for dog bites and injuries from the crash. It’s unknown why he was fleeing.
Both the CPD officer and HCSO deputy do not have any injuries.
