Rhea Co Native Cory Gearrin Lands Roster Spot With San Francisco Giants
Rhea County native Cory Gearrin has landed on the San Francisco Giants 25-man roster to start the 2016 season.
The right handed reliever pitched just over ten innings for the Giants this spring where he posted a 1-1 record with an ERA of 2.61.
Gearrin began his major league career with the Atlanta Braves in 2011. He stayed with the team until 2014 when he had to undergo Tommy John Surgery,
and he missed the entire season. Atlanta waived Gearrin at the end of the 2014 season, and he was later signed by the Giants.
After pitching in the Giants minor league organization last year, San Francisco called up Gearrin in September where he appeared in seven games with an ERA of 4.91.
San Francisco will start their season on Monday in Milwaukee.
