Wilcox Tunnel open after major renovations

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – After months of work, the Wilcox Tunnel is now open to traffic beginning today.

Long-awaited upgrades to the Wilcox Tunnel began on August 17, 2015, which was the first major renovation in decades.

More than $2 million in capital funds were provided for the renovations to the tunnel, which include safety improvements, major lighting upgrades, and a new inner tunnel liner to halt water seepage into the tunnel.

Additional upgrades will continue throughout the year.
