Mocs Return SoCon’s Best Offensive Lineman in Corey Levin
Chattanooga-(WDEF) Even though the Mocs are breaking in a new quarterback this fall, at least they’ll have the SoCon’s top offensive lineman blocking for him.
All-American Corey Levin returns for his senior season, and he just might become UTC’s most decorated offensive lineman.
Last year the Mocs Corey Levin joined some elite company.
He became just the 11th player in SoCon history to ever win the Jacobs Award twice, which goes to the league’s top lineman.
Said Levin-“It is pretty cool. It’s a little part of history. I know that. First time I won it, hadn’t been a UTC player since the 80’s I believe.”
So what makes Levin the SoCon’s best?
Said head coach Russ Huesman-“Well it starts with ability. The kid is 310-pounds. He can run. He’s physical.”
Said running back Derrick Craine-“He moves so well. He’s a great puller for us. He makes his block every time, and he works very hard at what he does.”
Levin is a pretty laid back-guy, and he admits he might need a little more tenacity between the lines.
Said Levin-“They say I need to be a little bit more mean. I’m going to be working on that this season.”
Added Huesman-“Probably when he talks about being meaner, I think it’s finishing and the toughness at the end of plays.”
If Levin keeps finishing blocks better, he may finish his career in the NFL.
Said Huesman-“He’s a prospect. No question. I think they like him. He’s got the size for it. He moves well enough.”
Levin also enjoys golf. So imagine seeing a 6’5 300-pounder strolling the fairways.
Said Levin-“They probably think there’s a long-drive competition about to happen. You’re just there. It’s kind of fun. I don’t know what to say there.”
