Vols Want More Up Tempo in Up Tempo Offense
Vols coach Josh Heupel must feel like a NASCAR crew chief because he wants his offense to go even faster.
Tennessee debuted Heupel’s up-tempo attack last week against Bowling Green.
Tennessee wound up running 88 plays, but apparently that wasn’t enough.
The Vols really bogged down in the second quarter when they barely got ten yards of offense in the period.
Now Heupel and company have been preaching to the players the need for speed, when it comes to executing the offense against Pittsburgh this weekend.
Said offensive lineman Jerome Carvin”Our coaches harped on it that we were kind of too slow. Yeah it was slow. They said it was slow. We’ve got to go fast. We’ve got to push the tempo faster even more. It’s the centers main job pushing tempo, so I have to do a better job of that.”
Reporter:”Can the offense go faster?”
Said running back Jabari Small:”Definitely. We’ve done it in practice. I think the first game. First game jitters you know what I mean. I feel like a big jump will be crucial for us from week one to week two, and I think that will happen.”
Said receiver Cedric Tillman:”After watching our game, I was watching other football games, and I was like man they’re going so slow. So now I’m pretty much used to it. I think it’s good for us.”
