National Science Foundation Helps Startup Companies

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- Starting a business can be full of challenges.

That’s why the National Science Foundation wants to help those who dream of running their own company.

Today, the foundations director met with entrepreneurs at the “INcubator” in Chattanooga.

He presented an overview of how the National Science’s Foundation grant program works.

The NSF awards almost 190 million dollars annually to startups and small businesses.

Those grants help to support research and development in science and technology.

“There are a lot of innovative ideas out there in the community. Those ideas which are tremendous technical challenges but if they are successful…it will be net benefit to society,” said Dr. Rajesh Metha.

So far the National Science Foundation has given grants to three startups in Chattanooga.
