Iconic Tennessee Theater comes down in Knoxville overnight
KNOXVILLE, Tennessee (WDEF) – Knoxville has lost one of its iconic signs this morning, at least for awhile.
The giant exterior, lighted sign for the Tennessee Theater came down overnight for some rehab.
The 5 story sign hangs outside the historic theater on Gay Street downtown.
It is only 21 years old, but has taken a beating, including a hail storm.
Crews will repaint and replace the 2,700 light bulbs on the sign.
The refurbishing should take a couple of months before the sign can go back up on the building.
