Firefighter Accepts his First Responders Hero award at the WDEF TV studios

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Chattanooga firefighter Lt. Vernon Lane came by our station on Tuesday to pick up his First Responders Hero award.

Bill Mitchell profiled his story for our monthly award.

Lt. Lane came by after a therapy session for his injured back.

He still hasn’t returned to work since the incident last August.

That is when a fire broke out at his apartment complex.

He ended up catching a baby thrown from an upper floor in a burning unit.

Then the child’s mother also jumped, landing on him.
