The Southside District may see Some Changes in the Future

Chattanooga, Tenn. (WDEF) – City Council members have big plans for Chattanooga’s Southside district. In fact, the council voted this evening on a grant application for federal funding to build a greenway.

The greenway would replace the abandoned railroad tracks that run from 38th Street to St. Elmo, and city officials say it will also allow locals to bike, or walk, from Alton Park to the Tennessee Riverwalk.

“Alton Park’s an area that’s been disconnected in many ways,” said city councilman, Chris Anderson, “This is another way to reconnect them to St. Elmo, and the greater downtown area, and eventually connect them to The Riverwalk.”

The Southside Broad Street area may also be getting a brand new 122-unit apartment building, but city officials say it could be awhile before we see any construction on either development.
