New details into SWAT standoff; suspect claims he accidentally shot his mother

OOLTEWAH, Tennessee (WDEF) – News 12 has uncovered new details into the Saturday morning SWAT standoff that involved a shot being fired at deputies.

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by News 12,  at 12:36 A.M.,  a Hamilton County Sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to a home in the 4000 block of Freedom Circle to investigate a report of an unconscious person.

When they deputy arrived, he made contact with Jovian Kyndiah, 19,  who was holding a pistol at the front door.

The deputy noted in his report that Kyndiah ran from the house when the deputy attempted to detain him but made his way back into the residence and refused the deputy’s orders to come out.

While standing at the front door, deputies noticed the body of a woman lying at the top of the stairs and there was no signs of life.

According to law enforcement, Kyndiah barricaded himself in the home so a SWAT team and hostage negotiation team were called to the scene.

According to authorities, Kyndiah stated that he accidentally shot his mother then repeatedly stated that he wanted to kill himself.

Law enforcement attempted to get Kyndiah to surrender by shooting tear gas into the house. When a tactical team attempted to break a living room window, Kyndiah reportedly shot at the deputies then screamed, “stop or I will shoot.”

News 12 spoke to neighbor who said he was startled when he realized police were surrounding the home next door.

“I was getting ready for work so when I walked outside, cops were everywhere. They told me to stay in the house. We were looking out the window and saw them shooting tear gas. It was an action packed morning. It was very intense to watch,” said Tyler Jackson.

By 6:06 A.M., Kyndiah surrendered to authorities.

Once deputies had Kyndiah in custody, they located the his mother who was reported to be deceased by unnatural circumstances.

In a press released issued Saturday afternoon, investigators determined the victim died from a gunshot.

Kyndiah is now facing four counts of aggravated assault for firing a gun at four deputies and his bond was set at $200,000.

The case is still under investigation so there is a chance more charges could be added.
