McCallie Names Cleveland Wrestling Coach Jake Yost New Assistant Coach For Blue Tornado

(McCallie release) The McCallie wrestling program gets an added boost as the new school year begins by adding
former Cleveland High School wrestling coach Jake Yost to the Blue Tornado coaching staff.
Yost will work as an assistant varsity coach with Head Coach Mike Newman and will teach
wellness in the Middle School.
“Jake is an impressive individual,” Assistant Headmaster Kenny Sholl said. “He is an
outstanding educator both in the classroom and in the wrestling room. He will be an asset to our
wrestlers and will have a chance to make an impact on our other students as well.”
Coach Yost — who has been head coach at Cleveland since 2012 — led the Blue Raiders to state
dual and traditional championships three straight seasons from 201315,
earning Times Free
Press Best of Preps Coach of the Year honors each season. In 2014, Coach Yost was named
Scrappy Moore Coach of the Year for all Chattanooga area
sports and TSSAA Wrestling Coach of
the Year.
As a high school and college wrestler, Coach Yost was a standout at Soddy Daisy
High School
and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He was a twotime
TSSAA state champion and
a Southern Conference champion at UTC in 2006 and 2007, qualifying for the NCAA National
Tournament both years.
His experience as both a head coach and a championship caliber
wrestler will benefit McCallie’s
wrestling program in numerous ways.
“We had a need in our wrestling program, and when you have a chance to get a coach the caliber
of Jake Yost, you have to take advantage of it,” Dean of Athletics Jeff Romero said. “He brings a
tremendous knowledge of the sport and has a proven teaching and coaching method that will
mesh perfectly with what Coach Newman is already doing.”
