Mocs Focused in Racking Up Easy Season Opening Victory

Chattanooga-(WDEF) When everybody on your football roster gets into the game, that’s code for an easy victory.
Mocs made it look easy in their opener, beating Shorter 66-0.
But UTC knows it won’t be sunshine, lollipops, and rainbows the rest of the year.
No first game jitters for the Mocs in their season opener last Thursday. They were all business in blasting Shorter University.
Said linebacker Justin King-“We went out there on Thursday night. It was go time. We were all excited. Upbeat. Ready to come out there victorious.”
Said receiver James Stovall-“It goes to show that we were focused in that game. We didn’t allow the stunts up-front and all the different things they do up-front get to us.”
Talk about focus. C.J. Board was focused on making a spectacular touchdown catch.
Said Stovall-“It was an exciting play. I went over there and congratulated him and said that was a heck of a catch.”
Said head coach Russ Huesman-“You know Board and Borishade. Those guys have been making them all camp against our defense, so that different surprise me that he made a catch like that.”
Perhaps the only downside to the Mocs blowout win against Shorter was the starters barely broke a sweat.
Said Huesman-“Our starters didn’t play very much. I think we took them out midway through the second quarter for the most part. That, I don’t want to say could hurt, but we needed probably more snaps than that with the first group.”
Pulling the starters early will not be a luxury with the rest of the UTC’s schedule.
Said Huesman-“Like I told them afterwards, it’s only going to get harder from here on out. They have to understand that games like that don’t happen very often. We’re going to play a lot of good teams starting with this week’s team.”
This week’s team is the Presbyterian Blue Hose.
Reporter-“Do you know what a Blue Hose is?”
Said King-“I have no idea. I have no idea. I’m a Chattanooga Moc. That’s all I’m worried about.”
The Mocs and Blue Hose kick at 2pm Saturday at Finley Stadium.
