Mocs Quarterback Alejandro Bennifield Named National Player of the Week

(gomocs.com) University of Tennessee at Chattanooga junior quarterback Alejandro Bennifield is the College Football Performance Awards National FCS Performer of the Week. He was responsible for all five touchdowns in the Mocs’ 34-0 shutout over Presbyterian on Saturday.

In just his second career start at QB, Bennifield was 11-15 passing for 279 yards and four touchdowns. Those were career marks for completions, attempts and yards. He also ran 13 times for 34 yards and another score.

In the first two games of the season, Bennifield has thrown for eight TDs. That is the most by a Moc in consecutive games since Cedric Stevens against Appalachian State (5) and The Citadel (3) in 2004. He is completing 73% of his passes and his pass efficiency rating of 300.7 leads the nation.

In addition to the CFPA recognition, he was also named the Southern Conference’s X-Factor of the Week by SouthernPigskin.com.
