Mocs Schedule Ramping Up With Start of SoCon Play
Chattanooga-(WDEF) The Mocs have been dynamite in their first two games of the year.
But now the real season gets underway this Saturday as the Mocs jump into conference action as they visit Furman.
Football is fun when you win your first two games by a combined score of 100-0, but Coach Huesman says the fun times are coming to an end.
Said Huesman-“From here on out, it’s a war every week. Every game. They’re not going to be like that anymore.”
And it’s always a war when you get into conference play.
Said Huesman-“When you get in conference, every game counts. You’re trying to win a conference championship, and everybody is excited to play that game.”
Said linebacker Dale Warren-“Nobody wants to lose a conference game. The intensity rises when you play a conference team. It’s like do or die.”
Furman is 0-2 on the year, but they lost at Michigan State and they lost at the Citadel 19-14.
Said Huesman-“They may have a little bit of an advantage on us because of the competition that they’ve played. They’ve played two excellent football teams. Physical football teams.”
Maybe the Mocs Vantrell McMillan can add to his sack total against Furman. He leads the SoCon with four this season.
Said Huesman-“Well I think Vantrell McMillan, we knew he had a lot of ability, but the level he’s playing at has really impressed me.”
Chattanooga will carry a number four ranking into their conference opener, but that means nothing to the Mocs.
Huesman-“We don’t say a whole lot about it. I think we were third last year and lost to Mercer. Next thing you know we’re 12th. All it takes is one bad day.”
The Mocs and Furman kick at 7pm. The contest will be broadcast on ESPN3.
