Mocs Expect a SoCon Showdown With Mercer

The last SoCon team to beat Chattanooga was Mercer, as the Bears upset the Mocs last November.
Now it’s the rematch as UTC welcomes Mercer to Finley Stadium on Saturday.
Even though Mercer upset Chattanooga last season, Mocs coach Russ Huesman says UTC does not have this game circled on the calendar.
Said Huesman-“I don’t believe in circling games. I don’t believe in revenge. I believe you have to get your team prepared. If you don’t, you’ll lose. If you do, you’ve got a chance.”
Said defensive back C.J. Fritz-“It’s in the past. It’s a new year, so we’ve got new goals. We’re going to come out and play as hard as we can to get a win.”
Said quarterback Alejandro Bennifield-“I feel like this year in practice, everyone will be focused more because we know we came into that game and left so much on the field. Everyone is going to want to be perfect.”
Mocs better be focused because Mercer may be even better this season.
Said Huesman-“They’re definitely not intimidated by us. Scared of us. All you have to do is look at the last two games we played against them.”
Chattanooga enters Saturday’s game leading the nation in both total defense and scoring defense.
Said Huesman-“I think this one this week will be a test to see if we’re any good on defense. I think Mercer has got the players.”
In other words, expect a SoCon showdown on Saturday at Finley Stadium.
Said Huesman-“It’s a big game because it’s two good football teams.”
Kickoff is at 4pm at Finley Stadium.
