Marion Co Quarterback Taye Hutchins: “A Unicorn in Purple”

Jasper, TN-(WDEF-TV) Marion County quarterback Taye Hutchins can not only squat 500 pounds — he’s in the one thousand pound club — meaning his squat, bench and deadlift records add up to **one thousand pounds**!!! Even more impressive, Hutchins is speedy — with a 4-4 40. According to his coach Dale Pruitt, Hutchins is a regular unicorn in purple.

Said Marion Co head coach Dale Pruitt: “I’ve had kids sign with Alabama. I’ve had kids sign with Tennessee. I’ve had tons of them at Jacksonville State, Middle Tennessee, schools like that, but I’ve never had one as explosive as Taye is.”

Even in little league, Taye Hutchins has all about *one team — Marion County.

Said Hutchins: “Ever since watching my brother and me being ball boy, it’s always been my dream to play for Marion County. I had to fill some big shoes after watching my brother, but I think I’ve done that.”

Said linebacker Mason Keel: “He’s been a leader ever since freshman year. He just took everyone under his wing and has been working with us and led us all to be one team.”

Said Pruitt: “He’s a silent leader. He doesn’t say a whole lot.” He’s a work every day, do as I do not as I say, kind of guy, and he’s just very inspirational for the rest of the teammates…. Taye is really playing out of position offensively. He’s really a running back or a slot. But he’s doing it because he’s a team player. His stats would be a whole lot bigger if he did that role instead of the role he’s in, but we wouldn’t be in as good of shape as far as wins and losses.”

Even so, Hutchins has racked in well over one thousand total yards for the undefeated Warriors.

Said tight end Michael Showalter: “Taye’s a really special player. You don’t find too many people like him. From squatting 500 pounds, to bench pressing 300, to running 4-4’s, he’s a very special athlete.”

Said Keel: “Well, you think with him being so small he wouldn’t be so strong, but big heart, big everything. Small on the field, but everything he gives 100 percent.”

And yet, Hutchins is still waiting on his first collegiate offer.

Said Hutchins: “It definitely leaves me with a chip on my shoulder, but I just have to keep playingn every day and just worry about that later on.”

Said

Pruitt: “If he wants to play college football, he’ll play college football, whether he gets an offer or not. When he gets on somebody’s campus and they see him play, they’re going to forget how tall he is or how small he is because he’s a player.”
