One Judge rules in favor of another in misconduct case

JACKSBORO, Tenn. (AP) – A judge has dismissed two out of four official misconduct charges in a case against a Campbell County judge who was accused of mishandling multiple cases.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reports that Senior Judge Paul G. Summers on Tuesday tossed out official misconduct charges regarding a contempt petition Campbell County General Sessions Court Judge Amanda Sammons filed even though an attorney didn’t request her to do so. Summers ruled Sammons had authority to issue the contempt petition regardless of the attorney’s request.

Sammons now will face only one set of official misconduct allegations at her upcoming Nov. 1 trial. Those relate to accusations that she jailed a woman in January for almost 48 hours under a $250,000 bond for a crime of which she was not accused.
