NW Whitfield Running Back Dominique Sistrunk Pounds His Way Into School’s Record Book

Tunnel Hill, GA-(WDEF) Northwest Whitfield running back Dominique Sistrunk had a game for the ages against Heritage last week.
He not only walked off the field with a key region victory, he also walked off with two school records.
Dominique Sistrunk felt he needed a big game last Friday night because his team needed it.
Said Sistrunk:”We did have one of our best wide receivers out. My other running back was out. So kind of having that pressure on your back like you’ve got to step up and do most of the job.”
Sistrunk did not disappoint. He broke off a school record 96-yard touchdown run. And he set the Bruins new single game rushing mark with 286-yards.
Said Sistrunk: “I didn’t realize how many I had until after of course. When the coaches told me. And when they told me they told me that I broke my cousin’s old record, which was 248.”
Sistrunk gives the Bruins spread offense a bruising element.
Said head coach Josh Robinson:”He gives us that physical presence when things are broke down and not blocked as well, he finds some ways to gain some yards. So it’s huge to get yards after contact like that.”
Reporter: Are people surprised that you are a running back?
Said Sistrunk: “Yeah when they see me they are like, what position do you play? I say I play running back. They’re like, are you serious?
Said linebacker Jamarey Hull: “It’s like tackling a train.”
Reporter: What makes him so difficult to tackle?”
Said Hull: “He’s big and very athletic. He can cut. He can do anything. He’s versatile.”
Said Robinson: “I thinks it’s a surprise no matter how fast you think he is on film. I think it’s always a surprise the first time he breaks free that a man that big can boogie that fast.”
Coach Robinson has that boogie-oogie feeling too because Sistrunk is just a sophomore.
Said Robinson:”He came into high school at 220. He’s 242 now, so he has gained 22 pounds. He squats 450-pounds and that kind of thing, so I think he’s well on his way to 250.”
Reporter: He’ll be banned by the GHSA by the time he’s a senior want he?
Laughs Robinson: “My son plays rec league football. They put a little stripe down the helmet of kids too big to carry the ball. Hopefully they won’t give him a stripe.”
