Reports of explosion at the Eastman Chemical Plant in Kingsport

KINGSPORT, Tennessee (WDEF) – Officials at the Eastman Chemical Plant call it a “process upset.”

But people around the Kingsport plant say they heard two explosions and saw a plume of smoke rise from the plant this morning.

The company says no one was hurt.

They describe it this way, “The upset created a loud noise and a visible plume.”

But they did order employees to shelter in place and advise nearby residents to stay indoors.

Officials are still evaluating how serious the incident was.
