Lookout Valley Receives Generous Donation for Renovations
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.(WDEF)- After Commissioner Joe Graham couldn’t help his district remodel its rec center last week all of Hamilton County stepped in to help.
City Officials say it’s been more than a decade since the Lookout Valley Rec Center has seen any renovations, so needless to say, community members were more than thrilled by the outcry of support to help see that happen.
“Well after the outcry of support from people in Hamilton County, many people asked me, what can we do to help?” said Commissioner Joe Graham
The John. A Recreation Center in Lookout Valley will be getting a much needed make-over, after receiving a pretty hefty donation.
“Here’s $2,550 for the painting project!” exclaimed Commissioner Joe Graham.
Just one week after The County Commission denied Commissioner Joe Graham’s request to donate 25-hundred dollars of his own discretionary money, to buy painting and cleaning materials for the rec center, all of Hamilton County stepped in to help.
“For the entire county to come together and make these donations, and happen so quickly in less than a week’s time, is amazing.”
“That’s what our teams says every day–we wanna have fun, play hard and if we can make sure our facilities are fit for that, we’ll be in good shape,” said Jonathan Guthrie who is the Girls softball coach in Lookout Valley.
Guthrie says the money is just what the facility needed to keep the games fun, and the kids safe.
“It’s gonna look tremendous, mainly because we do have the support from the community. Now I think that that’s galvanized some people in the community to really get behind us, and they’ll see that these girls and boys faces and enthusiasm, and it’ll really be a spring board for us to do bigger and better things with our facility.”
The Commissioner says volunteers are already scheduled to meet this Saturday to start re-painting the buildings.
