Walker Valley Offense Turns Into Scoring Mustangs Machine

Charleston, TN-(WDEF) Walker Valley is still in the hunt for a region title as they head into their showdown Friday with Rhea County.
The Mustangs are in the championship fight because they’ve been blistering the scoreboard.
They’ve scored 40 or more points in their last five games.
When you have a stable of fast Mustangs, at some point, you gotta let’em run wild.
Said head coach Glen Ryan:”We looked at all the skill guys we had, and that played a part in switching to a spread-type offense. There’s only one way to play that kind of offense, and that’s be wide-open. That’s what we have tried to do, and these guys have done a great job of executing.”
Walker Valley is now averaging 47-points a game.
Said receiver Bryce Nunnelly:”I don’t even think we scored 50 since I’ve been here, and then we scored 60 in back-to-back games. It’s pretty awesome having that accomplishment this season.”
Quarterback Kolten Gibson is the trigger man for the high flying attack.
He has thrown for over 1,800 yards this season.
Said Ryan:”Kolten is just a cool cucumber. He stays real calm. He does a great job of leading the offense. He doesn’t get rattled. He does a good job of reading the secondary coverages. And he’s a multi-threat quarterback. He can throw as well as run.”
Said Gibson:”Playing with this offense. All the skill guys. Great friends with all of them. It’s fun to play with them.”
With a 6-2 record, Walker Valley has already assured themselves of their first winning record since 2008.
Said Ryan:”We’re very fortunate in the fact that we’ve got some good skill players, and we’ve got good speed. That speed shows up on Friday nights.”
Said Nunnelly:”We have a lot of confidence. Just scoring that many points. It’s a blessing. We put in a lot of hard work, and it’s definitely paying off. It gives us confidence moving on each and every week.”
