Beer robber killed in wild Fort Payne crash
FORT PAYNE, Alabama (WDEF) – It started with a hammer at a convenience store and ended with an airborne vehicle crash that killed him.
Police in Fort Payne describe a wild crime spree before dawn on Tuesday that damaged a building and killed the suspect.
They say 25 year old Joshua Christian Grant from Altoona entered the South End Market around 4:45 AM, armed with a hammer.
He smashed the cooker door and made off with a carton of beer.
Police caught up with him traveling at a high rate of speed near 6th Street.
He then ran off the road on Gault Avenue, and hit a light in front of the fire station.
He shot across the parking lot, hit a curb and went airborne.
The car flew into the side of the old Quinn building.
Grant was pronounced dead at the scene.
