1-7 Mocs Still Fighting to Post Another Victory

Chattanooga-(WDEF) The Mocs lost three straight SoCon games by 20 or more points.
But last weekend against the Citadel, UTC lost by only six.
Maybe the 1-7 Mocs are inching closer to another win, although getting a victory Saturday against Samford will be a challenge.
Chattanooga almost got over the hump against the Citadel.
They had four cracks in the final seconds from the eleven, before Cole Copeland was picked off in the end zone, sealing the Bulldogs 20-14 victory.
Said head coach Tom Arth:”J.R. asked me after the game if I felt better of if I felt worse. I didn’t really know how to respond to that. I think after coming back and watching the tape and really having a chance to go back through and evaluate everything I still don’t know.”
Said linebacker Tae Davis:”It definitely hurts just because it was close and came down to the wire. It’s also something we can build off of. It shows that we are making progress.”
The Mocs minus 13 turnover margin is one major reason UTC is just 1-7 on the year.
Said Arth:”You can take the rest of the game and as well as you play in the rest of the game, if you lose the turnover battle, and you lose the third down battle, your odds of success are very, very small. So that’s really where we are, and what we are working on this week to improve as we prepare for Samford.”
Chattanooga has to prepare for the top quarterback in the SoCon in Samford’s Devlin Hodges, who averages 330-yards passing a game.
Said Arth:”I love watching him throw. He’ll throw it from every angle. He’ll legitimately. You’ll see plays where he’s throwing it underhand.”
Samford is ranked 8th in the country, and UTC hasn’t beaten a top ten team on the road since 1983.
Said Mocs running back Darrell Bridges:”We can’t make the playoffs, so we might as well upset somebody else’s season and have them home on Thanksgiving with us.”
Said Arth:”You gotta go out and earn it. You gotta go out and earn it. If we do that, we’ll put ourselves in position on Saturday to be successful.”
