Hixson welcomes you to Whoville!
Hixson subdivision transforms into a Christmas classic
Christmas is only 15 days away. Can you believe it? People all around the valley are getting into the spirit, but one subdivision in Hixson went a little further and transformed its little neighborhood into a Christmas classic.
Welcome to Whoville!
Technically, this is Hixson, but along Canyon Springs Road for the holiday season, it’s a different world.
One where the Grinch stares down at you from atop one house, but still finds time to sit down with Cindy Lou Who.
People come from miles around the area to see Whoville, and the sight of this labor of love from the neighborhood is nothing short of special.
“It’s amazing that they do something like this. I mean… all the neighbors are getting together and doing this. It’s not just one house every now and then. It’s ALL the neighbors are doing it, and it’s very fun and welcoming,” Janice Simmons told me who was there with her husband and grandson, Orion.
A woman named Natalie came to Whoville with her three daughters, and said, “Tonight is the night, and this, it’s got us in the Christmas spirit! Didn’t it? (asking her kids; they nod yes). Do we love it? I think we drove through it three times.”
Janice’s husband, Charles, appreciated how much work and openness went into the making of Whoville. “I think it’s great that they set this up and do this display and welcome everyone in the area to drive through their neighborhood and take a look at all the decorations. It’s really nice!”
Dr. Seuss’ classic story, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, turns 55 years old December 18th. The displays have many feeling festive, even on a rainy night.
Said Natalie, “The Grinch has NO power over all of this beautiful decorations, and it’s just … it makes your heart feel so warm doesn’t it?,” as she asked her children. They agreed.
“Maybe Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Christmas … perhaps … means a little bit more.” Just a reminder from the Grinch in the final two weeks before Christmas.
