It was not until her internship with Lake Region Medical that she gained exposure to engineering.

After this invaluable work experience and mentorship, she switched from biochemistry to biomedical engineering.

Since then, she has gone on to work for Abbott Laboratories and St. Jude Medical in Columbus, Ohio and Temecula, California.

At Georgia Tech, Alyssa is an active member of her campus community.

She serves as the Vice President for Outreach for the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) and also volunteers at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta where she tutors pediatric patients in math and science using their disease as a springboard for learning.

She has worked at Coretta Scott King Young Women’s Leadership Academy as an academic mentor for high school girls and at Centennial Place Elementary School as a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (S.T.E.M.) tutor.
