Family grieves shooting death of Soddy Daisy mother

SODDY DAISY, TN (WDEF-TV) Crystal Ostrum was one of the nicest people in their community, and while it’s tragic for them to lose her, the bigger loss is to her 9-year-old son who witnessed this horrific event.

Crystal’s aunt Renee Setter couldn’t imagine what’s going through his head.

"That is the last thing that that child saw of his mother was her running trying to run for her life and fall down and die,” said Setter.

The tragic scene at Mimosa Trailer Park left more than holes in this trailer, it also left a major hole in this family.

“All we can say is that she was a great great mother and a daughter,” said Crystal’s Grandmother Norma.

Crystal Ostrum was gunned down inside of her home Sunday morning right in front of her son and that’s an image he may never forget.

"That’s what he’s going to live with in his mind, is seeing his mama fall and not get back up again,” said Setter.

It was just as devastating when Norma received the message of the shooting and then of her death.

"Well I just don’t know how we going to make it to be honest with you,” Norma said. “I just don’t know because she was so good to me."

She said what she will miss the most are the small gestures from Crystal.

“Mama called her every morning at seven to get her up to go to work,” said Setter. Then Norma added, "She say, ‘Nanny I’m a getting up.’"

But the family’s main concern is about Crystal’s 9-year-old son Colton who she built her life around.

"Her son loved her,” said Norma. “When he came over he wouldn’t even want to go no where. He wanted to stay right in that trailer with his mom."

It was Crystal’s charming personality that this entire family will now miss

"I just don’t know how I’m going to make it, to be honest with you,” Norma said. “If I didn’t have the lord, I wouldn’t make it."

Crystal’s family said she was all about her family and church, and it’s something they will never forget.

They also said her son Colton is now with his father.

Soddy Daisy Police have arrested Jeremy Ritchie in connection to this murder.
