Rough Ridge Fire Update, November 27th

(WDEF) – The Rough Ridge Fire is currently 27,870 acres and 87% contained as of 10am this morning, with over 170 personnel assigning to put out the blaze.

Concerning the Cohutta Wilderness Area on the Chattahoochee National Forest, several resources continue to be utilized, with minimal fire activity limited to smoldering stumps, logs, and burnt trees. Higher humidity has reduced active fire behavior, but fresh leaves could possibly rekindle.

The South Central Oregon Fire Management Partnership Type 3 Incident Management Team is currently managing the fire. Fire suppression resources have been released to their home units or to assist on other fires in the area.

Specialized personnel are advising on the repairs in the Wilderness areas as firefighters continue to locate and extinguish interior hotspots.

A total fire ban remains in place on the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests. Building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire or campfire is prohibited. Fannin, Gilmer, and Murray Counties are among those that have issued a ban on all outdoor burning.
