Varnell Officer killed, GBI assisting Ringgold Police death investigation
RINGGOLD, Georgia (WDEF)- The Georgia Bureau of Investigation tells News 12 a Varnell Police Officer was killed Saturday night.
GBI spokeswoman Nelly Miles says at approximately 8:40 PM, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was called to US 41 by the Ringgold Police Department to investigate a death related to a car crash. Miles says inside the car was a male with a gunshot wound.
GBI agents along with the Georgia State Patrol and Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.
Miles says they later identified the victim as a Varnell City Police Officer. Witnesses told GBI agents that the vehicle was moving at a high rate of speed before crashing down an embankment.
Miles says no foul play is suspected.
