Weapons search locks down middle school in Athens

ATHENS, Tennessee (WDEF) – School officials locked down Athens City Middle School to search for a weapon, after two bullets were found in the hallway.

The principal says around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday a student found one of the bullets. Shortly after that, another one was found.

Administrators put the school on lock down to search students and lockers. After investigating the situation, they did not find any weapons, and the lock down was lifted.

The principal, Mike Simmons, says they made sure students were safe, and they let parents know what was going on.

“We have adults present in every situation and so we are just assuring them that they are safe right now. We are giving them these updates in our school cast messages to keep them updated on that,” Simmons said.

There was a police presence at the school for support.
