Dolly ditches “Dixie” from the Stampedes
PIGEON FORGE, Tennessee (WDEF) – How far will the “Dixie” purge go?
The company that puts on her Dixie Stampede dinners this week announced they are dropping the “Dixie” from the shows in Pigeon Forge, Myrtle Beach and Branson.
The changes have already been made online and on social media.
The company says they needed to drop Dixie from the title as they try to expand the franchise to other cities.
But will it stop at the name?
After Charlottesville, critics complained that the Dixie Stampede show pits the North Vs the South in a “fun” revival of the Civil War.
The company says they are working with producers to make any needed changes to the show.
But the Pigeon Fore season opens in just a week.
So far, the Dixie purge is not going over well with Dolly’s fans down south.
Some examples on Twitter so far:
So livid about this….ABSOLUTELY ridiculous….#DIXIEStampede https://t.co/fHoqnMKhKt

Seems #DollyParton has caved to the #PoliticallyCorrect leftists. The famous #DixieStampede in #PigeonForge, TN will be known as #DollyPartonStampede. Dixie has been removed from the name. #Sad

Ppl have been going bonkers over the #dollyparton #DixieStampede name change in Pigeon Forge – as if history were being rewritten by dropping Dixie from the name. It’s a freaking RESTAURANT with live entertainment… but by all means, throw a tantrum pic.twitter.com/NVplQD2T5m
