Nashville To Welcome Iraqi Family Denied Entry Due to Travel Ban
Nashville, TN (WDEF) – Despite holding a U.S. visa and undergoing background screenings, a former interpreter for the U.S. government and his family were blocked from coming to Tennessee from Iraq, due to President Trump’s travel ban.
Fuad Suleman was stopped in Cairo and deported back to Iraq last weekend, says the Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition (TIRRC), who, working with the ACLU and other agencies, mobilized resources to assist the family.
The Iraqi family is now scheduled to arrive at the Nashville International Airport tomorrow evening.
Upon arrival, there are expected remarks from the Suleman family, the TIRRC, Congressman Jim Cooper, and Nashville Mayor Megan Barry.
