East Hamilton Point Guard Justin Dozier Has the Keys to Hurricanes Offense
Chattanooga-(WDEF) East Hamilton point guard Justin Dozier helped the Hurricanes reach the state tournament last year for the first time in school history.
Dozier is once again directing a potent East Hamilton attack this season.
Thanks to the senior’s steady hand, the Hurricanes have an 18-3 record.
When Justin Dozier arrived at East Hamilton as a freshman, head coach Rodney English went ahead and made Dozier the floor general.
Said English:”From the first time he walked on campus, I gave him the ball, and I told him it was his team.”
Reporter:”Really?”
Said English:”Yes.”
Reporter:”What did he say? Do you remember?”
Said English:”He was a little nervous. A little taken back.”
Said Dozier:”I just felt like it was a great opportunity for me to just step up and be a leader of the team coming over to a new school at a new time. Just meeting different people and having the opportunity to just play ball.”
Dozier is certainly a baller. Coach English likes to call him the best point guard in Chattanooga.
Reporter:”Coach was telling me he thinks you are the best point guard in this area.”
Said Dozier:”It gives me a lot of motivation. It just makes me want to push myself on and on.”
English:”That’s why I think he’s the best point guard in the city because he doesn’t just do it on the offensive end. He does it on the defensive end, and he’ll go get big rebounds for us when we need them.”
Dozier:”I love playing defense. That just pumps up me and the team.”
Dozier was honored earlier this year for reaching the 1,000 career point club.
So yes he can score, but his ability to run the offense is what makes the Canes go.
Said English:”We played three games in Florida without Justin, and we could see how his contribution to our team changed when he wasn’t in there.”
Dozier’s basketball skills should vault him to the college ranks.
Said English:”The thing that has hurt Justin a little bit is he hasn’t played on the national scene, and no one really knows about him. So whatever school gets him, is going to truly get a diamond in the rough.”
