Mocs Guard Nat Dixon Becoming UTC’s Ironman This Season
Chattanooga-(WDEF) The Mocs Nat Dixson took the long road to Chattanooga.
The Panama City, Florida native started off playing football at Boston College before going to a junior college for hoops, and then transferring to UTC.
Maybe doing things the long way is how Dixon rolls because this season, he’s logging super long minutes.
He’s tied for seventh in the nation in total minutes played.
You might be able to take Nat Dixon out of Florida, but you can’t take the Florida out of Nat Dixon.
He was not prepared for the weather when he arrived at Boston College.
Said Dixon: “I mean I wasn’t really used to snow. I had like one jacket. It was like a little windbreaker. So I had to call my parents and stock up on some other things.”
You also could not take the basketball out of the gridiron Dixon.
Said Dixon: “I actually got caught sneaking into the little practice gym, and I was in there getting some shots off when I was supposed to be studying my football plays.”
A guy like Dixon who can play D-one college football and D-one college basketball,
you know he’s athletic.
Said Mocs head coach Lamont Paris: “I think his ability to change directions and his speed are things that are noticeable to me. I think those contributed to what I thought could be some versatility.”
Coach Paris said Dixon’s shooting ability stood out, and he wanted Dixon to maximize that part of his game.
Said Paris: “One of the first things I told him to do was to shoot a ton of threes. His range has extended, sometimes beyond what even I like at times.”
Dixon is now the sixth leading scorer in the SoCon, averaging right at 15 points a game. He’s also the Ironman of the SoCon, leading the league in minutes played at a robust 36 minutes a contest.
Said Dixon: “We had a couple of injuries here and there, a couple of pretty big injuries with a lot of our young guys, and a couple of older guys too. I just had to step in and play those minutes.”
Said Paris: “He’s handled it pretty well having to play that many minutes. Under the circumstances he’s done a tremendous job.”
