Man shoots neighbor’s dog to kill

TRENTON, GA (WDEF-TV) A Trenton couple said their neighbor shot their dog in the head and tried to kill it, but the neighbor said he warned them that if they didn’t handle the situation, he would.

Tonya Duckworth said it all began Saturday morning.

"I let my dogs out at 7:29 a.m. as I always do out of the garage, and at 7:35 a.m. he texted me and said, ‘Sorry Tonya I put Katie down," said Duckworth.

That neighbor, Randy Lawson, said he warned her after an incident involving his dog, T.K., and Tonya’s dog, Katie, and that happened two weekends ago.

"Her dog jumped on our dog and bit her," said Lawson

T.K. had to undergo surgery, and Randy said this wasn’t the first time the dogs had problems. The neighbors talked about how to deal with the situation, but they both remembered two different conversations.

Lawson said, "She said do you want me to put my dog down, I said Tonya that’s a decision for you to make not me."

Duckworth said, "He said, well I just want you to put Katie down, I want you to kill her, and I said I can’t do that Randy."

Lawson said he left her a clear message.

"I’m not going to allow your dog to do this to my dog again."

A week later, Lawson claims Katie attack T.K. again, and he tried to solve the problem himself.

"I went in the house and got the gun, and when I shot her dog, it was on my property."

Tonya says she found the dog in the garage suffering and bleeding.

She remembers the last word Randy said to her after he shot her dog.

"He was standing there drinking coffee, and he said well I told you if you didn’t put her down I would."

Tonya already filed paperwork to have a warrant out for Randy.

She says she wants to see justice for the cruel act against her dog.
