Chattanooga Fire Department receives tank donation from BASF

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Chattanooga Fire Department received a donation from a business to help with training exercises for firefighters.

BASF in Chattanooga recently donated a large, stainless steel tank that will be used to conduct training scenarios for firefighters.

The exercises will closely mimic a real-life confined space emergency.

Chattanooga Fire Department Chief Phil Hyman says they have a great partnership with BASF and he appreciates this addition to their training center.

“Donations are really a big portion of what we do. Without a lot of those donations, we just wouldn’t have those resources to tap into,” Chief Hyman said.

Chief Hyman says confined areas like manholes and crawl spaces are often poorly ventilated and can contain a wide-variety of hazards, making it critical that firefighters are properly trained to respond to those situations.
