New Lookout Mountain Police and Fire Department building now open after nearly 15 years

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Georgia (WDEF)- Lookout Mountain Police and Fire Department work station has taken a new step in keeping its community safe.

School Kids rose the flag to officially open the new police and fire department station this afternoon.
The new station took 15 years to complete and finished up phase one of the Lookout Mountain, GA city center project.
Lookout Mountain Mayor David Bennett said used this opening as a way to celebrate the 5th graders and create a bond with first responders.
“We have a volunteer fire department here. Someone’s telling me you have to tell them when they’re 18 they can volunteer for the fire department. It’s a great opportunity for us to celebrate her kids and all the work they’ve been doing,” said Bennett.
Phase two will add more buildings in the area including likely a grocery store, ice cream, and candy store.
