When the Tennessee soldiers are away
Military deployment is always an emotional experience for both soldiers and their families, especially when the deployment is for an extended period of time. That’s why many wives, children and parents depend on Family Readiness Groups or FRG’s.
"Well the family readiness group here has done a fantastic job of giving us resources that we can use when the soldiers are overseas," said Shelley Dubois who was on hand for her partners deployment.
FRG’s are made up of military families, soldiers, volunteers and civilian employees. They provide mutual support and assistance to families of military men and women who serve within the same unit or company. They also enhance the flow of information of what’s happening overseas to loved ones at home.
"You know the support the Army provides is wonderful. Not only that, but other military parents as well," said military mom, Theresa Stripling.
FRG’s help military families adjust to long-term separation through a series of activities that include morale boosting and exchanging personal contact information.
"You know husbands, wives, partners and families; they rely on each other a lot more when we’re gone. I know my partner is getting ready with a family readiness group. She’s already talking to my Joe’s families like exchanging emails and contacts. Ultimately what we do is rely on each other. I know I’m going to be there for my team and I know my team will be there for me so you have that common bond in country and the families have that bond outside of country," said Sgt. Kristine Purcell.
FRG’s also provide classes and workshops to further educate families about military benefits and the reintegration process once a soldier comes home. Without this program, many of the families of the 252nd Military Police Company would be left in the dark.
