Ex Summerville police officer sentenced for stealing from Christmas fund

Stacy Fountain gets 4 years in prison

SUMMERVILLE, Georgia (WDEF) – A former police officer in Summerville, Georgia has been sentenced to four years in prison for stealing money from the city.

Stacy Rena Fountain pleaded guilty last week to theft charges. She admits to withdrawing money from the city’s Santa In Uniform charity and other accounts in 2017. It came to light when a city employee wondered why the account was so low just after some fundraisers.

Since the scandal broke, the police department has pulled out of the annual holiday fundraiser and it is now run by a non-profit board. Fountain was sentenced to four years in prison, 16 more on probation and must pay more than $78,000 in restitution.
