Mocs Still in First Place With 11-2 SoCon Record

Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) The Chattanooga Mocs improved to 11-2 in the SoCon after their win over Western Carolina last night. They also moved two full games ahead of the pack for first place in the league standings.

Reporter:”Do you pay attention much to the SoCon standings right now?”
Said guard Grant Ledford:”Uh. Honestly no. We kind of know where we’re at. We just focus on us and focus on taking care of what we can control.”
Mocs look in control at the moment, especially during this stretch with four games in 8 days.
Said head coach Paris:”How locked in are you going to be during the scouting report when you’ve got four of those things happening in eight days. It’s like ah, coach is running off at the mouth and saying the same thing. Okay we get it. You’ve got to block out. All right we’re going to run this play. All right it’s hard to be mature enough to stay locked into that and value that as a factor in what we do to win.”
Mocs have won 3 straight without injured big man Silvio De Sousa proving Chattanooga has depth.
Said Paris:”It’s reliable depth. Those guys go in there honestly, and I don’t hold my breath or crossing my fingers. I’m going to coach those guys the same way I’m going to coach the guys that are starters.”
Nigerian native Josh Ayeni has filled in nicely with De Sousa on the bench.
Said Paris:”It has been nice for him to give us a shot in the arm. It gives us a little more versatility probably than like an Avery Diggs defensively.”
Reporter:”Did you realize Josh Ayeni grew up in a town that was nicknamed ‘Croc City’ for all the crocodiles?”
Said Ledford:”I did not. That’s crazy. (chuckles) That’s crazy.”
Talk about crazy. Ayeni is also the oldest player in the nation playing college hoops.
He’s 25.
Said Paris:”It’s a far cry away from our first year. We were the youngest team in the whole country. I asked this at practice one day. I said how many guys we got on the team that are under 20. We had one guy under 20 on our whole team under the age of 20 at the time. I was like man. This is crazy.”
Said Ledford:”We’

ve got a lot of experienced guys that we keep our composure when things are going wrong like Monday night. We were down double digits, and we came back. We’ve done that a lot this year.”>
