Chattanooga Police officer shoots a Hamilton Co. Sheriff’s employee

The TBI’s Josh Devine has arrived in Chattanooga and is being briefed on the preliminary investigation.

He plans to update us later this morning.

7:45 AM UPDATE:

Chief Roddy with the Chattanooga Police Department updates the shooting at a Brainerd home last night.

He says it looks like officers were gathered together at the home, but does know why at this point.

He confirms that two off duty Chattanooga officers were at the home & called in that they were there.

Chief Roddy would not confirm why they were there at this point.

He cannot say yet what the role the suspect had with the Sheriff’s Department.

he also could not say what kind of weapon the suspect brandished.

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Chattanooga police now say the overnight shooting in Brainerd was officer involved.

It happened at a home in the 300 block of Shawnee Trail near Brainerd Golf course after 1 AM.

Police were called for a disorder with a weapon and a shot had already been fired.

They say officers encountered an armed suspect outside the home and were forced to shoot.

The suspect later died at a local hospital.

Chattanooga police now say that suspect was an employee of the sheriff’s department.

They are handing over the investigation to the TBI.
