Chattanooga police arrest man accused of severe child abuse

CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee(WDEF) – Police arrest a man they believe was responsible for severely abusing a three year old toddler.

Rhasean Lowry, 34, is facing criminal charges that include child abuse and assault.

According to a police report, the child may have been abused over a two week period.

The investigation began when the victim showed up unconscious at a local emergency room.

Lowry told investigators that the child fell down some stairs but forensic investigators found bruising all over the child’s body that was not consistent with Lowry’s story.

The alleged abuse reportedly occurred at the Econo Lodge on Bonnie Oaks Drive where Lowry, his girlfriend and her three children reside.

Investigators reviewed motel surveillance video of Lowry placing a limp and lifeless body into his vehicle. He was reportedly taking the child to Parkridge Hospital.

Doctors at Parkridge referred the child to Children’s Hospital.

While at the hospital doctors noticed bruising all over the child’s body.

According to the arrest report, the child belongs to his girlfriend and Lowry had been watching the child while she was at work.

Lowry denied abusing the child but police say based on a forensic investigation, there was enough evidence to make an arrest.

Lowry’s bond was set at $75,000.
