STEM Software Introducted to Hamilton County Commission

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WDEF) – A Chattanooga-based company is asking the Hamilton County Commission for $48,000.

SAI Interactive wants to incorporate a new program called Learning Blade into all middle schools.

The software would introduce students to STEM careers or careers in science, technology, engineering, and math.

SAI Interactive says the software would teach students through a game-based platform, and specifically motivate minorities and girls to explore STEM careers.

A representative with the company says, "There’s a lot of data out there that shows us that middle school is where kids are making these most important decisions about where their careers will go, and if they do not choose to pursue this when they’re not in middle, they set up a lot of hurdles for themselves when they go into high school."

Representatives also say it would only take two hours to train teacher on how to use the software.

There’s no word on when the commission could vote on the funding.
