Malachi Smith Brings Big Offensive Game and Shoe Game to the Mocs
Said guard Malachi Smith: “If you go in my room, everything I’ve done I’ve written down, and I have the date when I wrote it down. I wrote stuff down when I was redshirting, and I knew the season I was going to have just because I knew the work I was putting in…. I knew that when the opportunity came, I was going to make the most of it.”
Malachi Smith is no stranger to sacrifice. Missing parties for personal growth, Smith is always focused on becoming better.
Said Smith: “I like feeding my mind. I feel like the more you feed your mind, the more you can grow as a person. It’s like a plant. You give the plant nutrients, and it will grow. … I always have a mission, and there’s no reason why I can’t attack that mission every day.”
Smith’s vision board keeps him motivated.
Said Smith: “It says ‘Stay Anchored.’ That’s one thing. Outwork everyone. It’s kind of like, whenever you feel lazy, whenever you feel tired, you know you’re doing it for a reason. … My mom is my biggest inspiration. She’s done everything for me. Seeing the sacrifices she’s made for me. She never quit, so that’s why I never quit when it comes to school or basketball or anything I’m trying to accomplish.”
Smith definitely hasn’t quit on the shoe game.
Said Smith: “Basketball probably like 20, 25. In total I probably have like 60. Like 60 to 70. I might have 100, I don’t know.”
Said head coach Lamont Paris: “Malachi’s got these pocka dot ones that remind me of, there was a rapper named Kwame in the early 90’s late 80′
s. Polka dots were kind of his thing, so whenever I see the shoes, it always reminds me of that. Extensive. I’d say they have an extensive shoe game.”
