Moc Reflect on David Jean Baptiste’s Incredible Game Winning Shot in SoCon Finals
The Chattanooga Mocs joined March Madness lore on Monday night. David Jean Baptiste feeling the madness with a 35-footer at the buzzer to lift Chattanooga to a one point win against Furman in the SoCon tournament finals. With the victory, Baptiste helped the Mocs punch their ticket to the Big Dance.
Said Baptiste: “I knew I had four seconds left. Felt like it took the ball forever to reach the basket. I don’t know. Once I saw it hit the net, I couldn’t feel no more after that. It was unbelievable.”
Said SoCon Tourney MVP Malachi Smith: “When it went in, I literally didn’t know if it was real or not. I just looked at him. Then when he took his jersey off. I was like okay. And like you know he’s a great player. And he just did what he does. He makes stuff happen, and that’s what great players do in big time moments.”
Said head coach Lamont Paris:”Incredible game. What a finish. We tried to do what we could do to make it exciting. Shaved a couple of years off me life for sure.”
Said forward Silvio De Sousa: “Very first week of me being on campus I think at the very first practice I remember saying in the locker room. Everybody was talking so they probably weren’t paying attention. I said you think playing ball is fun. Just make it to the NCAA tournament. You are going to have a lot more fun. We are not done yet. We are going to continue to fight until we’ve made it there.”
