Hamilton County Commission Votes to Support Amendment No. 1
It aims to give state legislators power to regulate abortions.
Five commissioners voted yes, including Sabrena Smedley.
Smedley adds, "I believe there are certain regulations that are not in place now, one being informed consent as one of the main reasons I will be supporting this resolution."
Greg Beck and Warren Mackey voted against the amendment.
Joe Graham passed and Tim Boyd abstained from the vote.
Boyd adds, "This resolution is not relevant to the business of the county commission."
Some residents spoke up, saying the vote should have never happened in the first place.
Brian Meritt, says, "This is not about regulations, this is a concerted effort through a lot of organizations that are crafting legislation."
Others were happy about the commission’s yes vote.
One woman adds, "This amendment is simply about returning our state to neutral on the subject and protecting unborn babies and women who are coerced into abortion."
One Chattanooga resident said it took her a year to "say no" to amendment one.
Ann Coulter tells us, "Our government works best when it wields that power and influence very appropriately and very limited judicious careful considered ways, and I don’t think that’s what we saw here today."
Now, even though commissioners voted yes, it will have no impact on the actual passage of the amendment.
Residents will get to decide for themselves on November 4th.
