30 Year Old Jonathan Foxx Killed in Dalton Train Incident, Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office Investigating
Sheriff Scott Chitwood – Whitfield County, Georgia,"It was also traveling north bound so was coming from his backside, the engineer stated they started sounding the horn numerous times, they couldn’t get the train to stop traveling and struck the individual in the middle of the train"
It happened just down from this railroad crossing off Five Springs Road a matter of hours after Foxx left Whitfield County Jail.
Investigators are still unsure of whether or not Foxx was homeless, but friends say he would sleep near the rail lines at night and would often jump trains.
"He had been in custody and had been released the day before, was there a state of depression? that will probably be the million dollar question as we investigate."
Foxx’s family in Murray County have been contacted by Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office.
A Dalton man says Foxx would sometimes come up from the rail lines at night and sit and chat with them at their warehouse off Five Springs Road.
Richard McGill, Friend of Victim, "Train deaths are fairly uncommon in this area and my thoughts and prayers go with his family"
Charities in Whitfield County say the homeless community gravitate towards living under bridges and beside railway lines, but they say there are other options.
Patricia Thompson, Salvation Army Dalton GA,"We can offer homes to them, not all of them, but we have services that are available, especially veterans, a lot of veterans and there is special funding to help those vets"
Former inmates who knew Foxx say they are in disbelief as he seemed relieved about getting out of jail.
Foxx had previous charges dating back to Spring of 2013 for marijuana possession, battery and obstructing an officer.
