Eastern Michigan Transfer QB Preston Hutchinson Fighting For Mocs Starting Job
Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) The Chattanooga Mocs wrapped up spring drills over the weekend, and the starting quarterback job still remains up in the air. One of the new faces competing for the job is Preston Hutchinson. He brings some experience and some fun after playing on the D-One level.
Preston Hutchinson grew up in Ohio. Played college ball at Eastern Michigan. But now he decided to leave the Midwest behind.
Said Hutchinson:”The spot down south. I’ve always wanted to get the good weather. I’ve been stuck in Michigan. That was a big thing. I just wanted to branch out and get to a different city in the same sense. I only have one year of college football left, so I was also looking at my future past that.”
Reporter:”What have you loved about Chattanooga so far like the most?”
Said Hutchinson:”The golf. I love the golf.”
Reporter:”What golf courses have you gone to?”
Said Hutchinson:”Well I work at Chattanooga Golf and Country Club, so I get to golf there for free. So it’s cool. I already got the little hookup with that.”
Hutchinson is looking to hookup with Mocs receivers this fall. He threw for over 22-hundred yards at Eastern Michigan, and he has wheels to boot.
Said head coach Rusty Wright:”Besides Cole there was nobody else on the roster that had played. Having a guy that has played in. At Purdue and at Miami of Ohio and Western Michigan and Central. That’s huge.”
Reporter:”What stands out to you about Preston. Just personality wise?”
Said Wright:”Well that’s the thing. He has it. He has got it. He is out-spoken. He’s a rah-rah guy.”
Said Hutchinson:”I definitely have some rowdiness to me that teammates like.”
Hutchinson may have experience and a little swagger, but that doesn’t guarantee you the starting job.
Said Hutchinson:”With competition I just feel like it’s heightening all of our abilities and competition just sharpens each of us.”
Reporter:”How has he made the offense better?”
Said Wright:”Just a little more juice to it. Just a little more juice to it. Given us an opportunity just to push some guys and make some guys better around him. But also you know push that quarterback room into being better.”
