Scenic City ARK Say There’s A Growing Demand For Blankets, Tents and Warm Clothes As Night Time Temps Drop
CHATTANOOGA,TN, (WDEF)-As temperatures drop more members of the homeless community are asking for support.
Alan Cantrell, Scenic City ARK,"I am not sure the numbers normally we average about 120 to 130 but I think we are up around 170 and 180 today, so we seen a pretty good size rise I have seen a lot of new faces"
Cantrell says his team of volunteers who feed the homeless community every Sunday need more support.
"We are desperately trying to get stock piled up on tents, sleeping bags, coats, sweats anything warm we can give these people to keep them warm at night"
Members of the homeless community say they are grateful for any help they can get.
"It’s been kind of rough I have come to a new city but i’ve got all type of referrals all type of help and I can tell here in Chattanooga they really look out for the homeless" said one member of the homeless community who just arrived in Chattanooga.
Scenic City ARK say many members of the homeless community live in tent villages and under bridges for warmth in the greater Chattanooga area.
The national coalition for the homeless ranks Tennessee among the top 20 states with a growing homeless population.
